Okay, I’m sorry. That title is total click bait. In my defense, I would have clicked on it too so since you’re here, why don’t you do something for me? I want you to pull up Google and do a quick search. Type in “Twenty Somethings with Disabilities” or “Millennials with Disabilities,” anything along those lines. What comes up? Literally, nothing. Unless you’re looking for someone’s opinion on why you should invest in disability insurance. Why do Millennials with disabilities seem to not exist?
We do exist. Contrary to what appears to be popular belief, children with disabilities do not suddenly become middle aged and those who are middle aged certainly do not always get those disabilities during their middle age. Um, hello? There’s a certain way people, oh, I don’t know… age? Beyond our probably underfunded and understaffed Disability Services Centers, if we’re still in college, we have nothing. Professionals in the field don’t even write about us. Why are the only people writing about Millennials with disabilities Millennials?
