My mom and I have always been close but moving 6+ hours away from her was hands down one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done. I went from being able to see her every day if I wanted to only getting the chance once or twice a year. So when I was trying to decide what to do for Mother’s Day, the only thing I could really think of was this: write something. So today, in honor of Mother’s Day this Sunday, I’m sharing an open letter to my mom.
I don’t think another quote exists that can better sum up my relationship with you. From a young age, I remember wanting to be just like you: a traveler, inspiring, and resilient. You encouraged me to grow, to challenge myself, and to challenge the box the world would one day try to put me in. I love you for that. Even if some people think it’s turned me into a raging liberal feminist. *Shrugs unapologetically*
