Can you guys seriously believe it’s the first day of March already? Seriously, I feel like the time is flying by (and simultaneously moving so slow but we’ll save that for another post). If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have notice from my last post that I plan on making some huge changes to the blog in the coming months. I will literally hit the ground running with more frequent posts (5 days a week, y’all!), a kick ass newsletter (which you can sign up for here) and that’s just the beginning!
I was puzzled as to the best way to share the exciting upcoming things you’ll see on the blog with you guys and that’s when I discovered Monika at Violet Roots has this amazing concept called a Letter from the Editor. Obviously, you see these in all of your favorite magazines but I had never thought about using one for a blog before. What a great idea, right? While mine isn’t going to be nearly as insanely amazing as hers (yet, anyways) I figured the first of the month was the perfect opportunity to share what’s coming in the future as well as what’s been happening on Oh Shift, Lately. (That’s the title).
Oh Shift, Lately
In the sidebar to your right you’ll see a little button with the words “InfluenceHer Collective.” At the beginning of February, Oh Shift, Y’all was selected to become a part of this amazing group of bloggers tied to the HerCampus website. I have enjoyed every minute of being part of this amazing group and it is truly an honor to be working with some seriously great bloggers (can you say #goals?).
Last week I did my very first series on a topic that is not-so-easy for me to talk about. It was a huge success for me in terms of the fact that it got me talking about my struggle with mental illness and I had an amazing time connecting with those of you who reached out to me in the comments, on social media, via email, etc. There will definitely be more series to come in the future and you can bet your ass I won’t stop talking about mental illness because it is a serious topic that we need to keep talking about, confronting stigmas, and supporting each other. If you want more and can’t wait until the next series, here’s the link to the newsletter that wrapped up the week. Please subscribe if you dig it (plus, you’ll get a free printable).
Speaking of the newsletter, that’s a thing. I’m still fleshing out the details of what it’s really going to be about, look like, etc. but for now it tends to be more of what I write here… except the only way you can get it is by subscribing. Since I will now be posting Monday-Friday, the newsletter will now be going out Sunday evening (previously Friday evening). I’ve been wanting to share more about my personal life, behind the scenes looks, and book reviews so those will probably be the most common themes. It also features an Ask Darrian section, so please feel free to send me any problems you would like advice for or questions you want answered! You can either email me your questions or submit them anonymously through Tumblr. But these questions will ONLY be answered via the newsletter, so make sure you’re a subscriber!
More to Come
Style Monday: As you may have already seen, I’m going to be putting more style into the phrase lifestyle blog. Every Monday I’ll be posting a look (or two) that will be relevant to the season, upcoming holidays, events, etc. These posts will be a little rough until I get used to them, so bare with me. I’ll also be incorporating style and outfit tips, and even plan on doing a Wardrobe Week series in the future. So stay tuned!
Work It Wednesday: Because I’m a 20-something professional and know many other 20-something professionals, I’m going to be taking Wednesdays to write about how to survive in the professional world. I will be sharing my personal experiences (the highs and lows), advice, and a look into the daily struggle that 20-somethings face in the workplace. Yes, it is always a struggle but I feel it’s important to catch the professional plight of 20-somethings from every angle.
Post Grad Friday: This is probably my favorite new feature to the Oh Shift. After writing the 5 Lessons I Learned in College post, I found that I really enjoyed talking about and analyzing my undergraduate life. I also realized that if there is anything I can do to help make undergrad life easier on current and future college co-eds that I should take that opportunity and run with it. So that’s exactly what I’m doing. Every Friday, there will be a post filled to the brim with advice to my younger self from post grad me. I’ll be discussing topics like drinking and parties, handling tough courses, living with roommates and more so you definitely do not want to miss this!
March is definitely going to be an exciting month here on the blog! Look for more Oh Shift, Lately on the first of every month! Don’t forget to subscribe to the newsletter and send me your questions. I hope this series will evolve over the months with the rest of the blog and I am certainly looking forward to taking on the rest of the year with y’all!
